Sanctity of Life Sunday Change

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I wanted to update you on a change for this coming Sunday. I have made an ‘executive’ decision to postpone our normal Sanctity of Life Celebration from January 17 until March 7. On that date, we will also have our Child Dedication service as well.

Let me explain why in four reasons:

  1. The date of the third Sunday marks the closest date to the Roe Vs Wade Supreme Court decision. It is a good time to remember the unborn near the date when abortion was made legal in this nation. However, the date is arbitrary. Every day is a day in which the sanctity of life should be celebrated.
  2. Then, there is the reason that public services have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. That effects our ability to meet corporately which impacts our child dedication service. Much like the Lord’s Supper, the entire body of Christ should witness the parent’s decision to dedicate their children to the Lord as we all participate in that covenant. We should be gathering again corporately by that date.
  3. With the inability to meet publicly, it would also effect the love offering that we take up for the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center (which used to be called ‘Choose Life’). We typically use Sanctity of Life Sunday as our collection day. We want to maximize that offering so that it might be used for the glory of God.
  4. Last, you may wonder why as late as March? In February we will be taking up a special offering towards our Building debt. We did not want to put both offerings in the same date that would be an unnecessary burden upon our people.

So, hopefully you see the wisdom in postponing this special day. It is not being cancelled- merely rescheduled for its optimal impact. Please continue to pray for our nation and world to celebrate the gift of Life in all its forms, from the unborn all the way to the aged and on through new life in heaven made possible by our savior.
