July Elders Newsletter

What were the elders up to in July?

July 1st - The first elders meeting of the month is reserved for a focused time of prayer for the spiritual growth and needs of the members. The elders also use a portion of this meeting to study and discuss for our own soul care and edification.

Blair led us in a discussion of Chapter 4 of Theology for Ministry. This chapter was about creation and challenged us to consider how the Bible’s teaching on creation (specifically, man created in God’s image) affects our pastoral ministry.

What else did we discuss?

  • Details of the upcoming K-Group semester!
  • Daniel relayed Kelly Nichols’ willingness to step into the Facilities Ministry Team Lead position.
  • Details of the upcoming church picnic/fellowship meal. Especially taking a moment to recognize Ric and Giselle Crooks’ service to the Children's Ministry.
  • Upcoming dates in which the staff would be taking vacation/medical leave:
    • Daniel out mid-July
    • Blair out late-July
    • Amber out for wrist surgery
  • Should the church affirm Scott Dolloff as elder in the September Members Meeting, the installation service for Scott will be October 5th.

July 15th - The second elders meeting of the month is when most of the operational needs of the church are discussed.

  • This meeting was cancelled due to the absence of attendees on vacation.

What did the elders do outside of these meetings?

The elders were consistently involved in counseling and discipleship related activities as well as conversations with members about concerns or suggestions. We also addressed a benevolence need of a church member.

This month was especially busy outside of meetings because the elders conducted the formal deacon interviews with the five candidates and their wives. We are pleased to report that all five candidates will be put forward for consideration and affirmation by the church. The recommendation will officially come at the September Member Meeting - along with a time to hear from and ask questions of each candidate. The vote to approve the men as deacons will be held shortly after in a special called meeting.

As always, the pastors are available to you should you need anything. You can reach out individually to your shepherding elder, or to all of us at elders@providencebaptist.us.

With the love of Christ,
