How to Pray for Our Church Plant

As we anticipate the first steps of this new work I have been reminded, first and foremost, that this is God’s work. God is on a mission…to the praise of His glory…and He desires us to partner with Him (CO-MISSION) to spread His Word and make disciples (Matt. 28:18-20)!

As we lay the foundation for His new work it is crucial that we all (His gathered people at Providence) are of one mind and heart unified in our vision, so I ask you to PRAY. First, pray for a unified vision amongst the elders. This is our first ‘church plant’ and we want to be faithful in our first steps and walk in sync with the Lord, so pray for patience and wisdom as we seek His vision. It is going to take both to lead the church through this new season of ministry.

Then I also ask you to pray for those that He is calling to help start this work. For me, it started with just being available and saying ‘yes’ to His leading. God has been so good to lead us as a church and grow us into a thoroughly ‘gospelized’ people. And as such, we don’t want to horde what we have but herald what we know! I want to see that gospel that has transformed us to move into the community around us. This city, as it continues to grow, needs more churches that are committed to the proclamation of the gospel and that happens when God’s people are convinced that what they have needs to be shared. Pray for that conviction.

Our plan is to start gathering for corporate prayer each month starting in February. We will use those times to seek God and remind ourselves of His mission and ask Him to lead us.

I close by asking that you pray in the Spirit that moved Paul as he prayed for the ‘saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae’ that God would fill us with the knowledge of His will in spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. And that we would not get over the glorious truth: That He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Unto the praise of His glory,

Pastor Brian
