Missions Ministry

The Missions ministry team will organize and coordinate the work of Providence Baptist Church in the area of missions. Its aim will be to extend the Gospel of Christ to all people within its reach, locally, nationally and internationally. The spirit of that mission is best expressed in the scripture from the prophet Isaiah that was read by our Lord in the synagogue at Nazareth:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19

That spirit is the driving force that empowers our obedience to his final earthly command: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:19-20.

The effort expended and the support provided by Providence Church in mission work will, as it must, reflect these elements of the mind of Christ:

• Recognition of the lost state of those who are outside of the body of Christ.
• A deep Christlike love for all who are lost, all who are hurting, all who are hungry or sick, all of the brokenhearted, the blind (physically or spiritually), the bruised, the captives and all others for whom healing and restoration can be found only in Christ.
• A genuine commitment to the Cross and all that it entails.
