Unplug & CONNECT

Our theme this year’s student retreat is how we CONNECT to the heart of the Father. Helping students learn what we were created for and finding their souls satisfaction in a close CONNECTION with God means being willing to UNPLUG from the things of this world.
Are our smartphones tools that facilitate our commitment to the central purposes and values of our lives, or are they — and our habitual modes of using them — constantly distracting, diverting, or obstructing us from them?
•How are they changing us?
•What are the spiritual consequences of our digital addictions?
•Why do we compulsively check social media?
•Why do we check our devices first thing in the morning?
•Why does digital technology lead to isolation and loneliness in so many?
While these devices can be wonderful tools that can fulfill our purposes, we want to use them in a God glorifying way. As Paul said, ‘“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.’  I am praying that God will use this weekend and grant us repentance from unhealthy patterns and renew our passion to be fulfilled in Christ consuming the truth in his Word. This will be a great opportunity for our students to invite their friends!
The retreat for all 7th-12th grade students, (college students are welcome and will serve as facilitators for some of our discussion groups) will be at Camp To Know Him in Pisgah, AL. The camp has miles of wooded trails, amazing rock formations, and incredible views of the Tennessee River. This will be a great place for concentrated time of instruction in God's Word and recreation activities including hiking, repelling, and challenging team-building activities.
